Author Topic: Batch tools help  (Read 1152 times)

Hi there, we're two not very technical artists trying to use substance to process several thousand video frames and are struggling to grapple how substance batch tools works.
We got the result we wanted from our basic sbs graph but need to somehow figure out how to tell it to go through every frame in our pictures folder and save out the corresponding output in another folder and are at a loss at how to go about this even after reading through the documentation.

As far as we can tell we need to use an alias for our input colour maps' root folder and do something with SBS mutator.exe to get it to increment, but do we then need to make several thousand sbsar files to render out the resulting maps?
Is there a way of identifying the colour map input and then identifying and saving out the outputs several thousand times?

We're really out of our depth here with zero experience scripting and we're only able to stitch bits and pieces from various forum posts together, is there a batch tools for dummies somewhere out there?? :P

I'm curious...

Are you using Substance Designer to process images?  Similar to how someone might use Photoshop?

Would you mind, please, explaining a bit about what it is you are doing?
I've never thought about trying to use it to manipulate each individual frame in a video sequence of images.
Sorry I can't answer your question, I haven't scripted either, but it is an interesting situation.

Yes that is pretty much correct, as we are working with a game engine this approach gives us much better results than any video editing software we know of for our purposes.
The program itself is very powerful which is why we were so surprised that there was no even remotely usable solution for batch processing, we have had to ask some favours from a programmer and will likely throw the resulting automation wrapper on github with an opensource license so other people have something to jump off with.

That's pretty cool.
If you ever have any images you can share that show what you're doing, that'd be fun to see.

Good luck to you and your team.
