Author Topic: New user questions...  (Read 2279 times)

I'm new to Substance and was hoping to get some answers to a few initial questions I have...

- Is there a way to view Substance materials in Modo's preset browser?  If not, what are some suggestions for quickly previewing Substance materials?

- Is there a way to bulk convert all Substance materials in a scene to baked textures instead of doing one material at a time?

- Is there something similar to GoZ that will send scenes/models back and forth between Designer / Painter / Modo?  If not, are there Modo / Substance workflow suggestions anywhere in the docs or on the forums?

- Is it possible to pay a one-time fee to download all of the Substance Source materials at once?

I think that's it for now.  Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,

Welcome to Substance!

Here are the answers:

- Is there a way to bulk convert all Substance materials in a scene to baked textures instead of doing one material at a time?

Yes, you can use the Substance Batch Tools for doing this. The batch tools allow you to use a command line process to batch an action of substances such as rendering all textures to disk. The batch tools require scripting, so you would need to create a script to do this. I was working on a modo script to do this actually, but haven't had time to finish it.

WE don't have a GoZ like solution. I have been thinking about creating a modo script for this. The workflow now is to export the mesh from MODO as FBX, paint textures in Painter and then export for rendering in MODO. The painter maps work great in MODO. Here is some information in the docs. They pertain to the substance plugin but the rendering info is the same for exported maps from Painter. I just used the unreal material in MODO. This way you can just export the default channels from Painter.

Yes, you can buy the Source database as a one-time fee. It's expensive and only for Pro pricing at $2990. Its all materials for one-year. If you purchased through a Live subscription, you get the Source data base at no extra cost with 30 material downloads per month. You can rollover downloads up to a maximum of 360.
