Author Topic: Baking issues/ Black Normal Map  (Read 2014 times)

Hey everyone,

I'm running into an issue here where every time I try baking my high poly model to my low poly in substance, I get nothing but a black normal map...It only does it when I have it set up by Mesh name only.

I have read a post here saying to turn off backface culling before exporting, and had made sure that my high poly model faces where not flipped, but nothing has changed. is there something that I am missing here?

Sorry here are the settings that I have for the baking

It only does it when I have it set up by Mesh name only.
Start by checking if your naming convention in your mesh names is right. You can try to bake and then look into the log file for your mesh names : https://support.allegorithmic.com/documentation/display/SPDOC/Exporting+the+log+file

If you didn't read it already, I suggest taking a look at our documentation too : https://support.allegorithmic.com/documentation/display/SPDOC/Matching+by+name
Don't forget your log file. It can be exported from the Help menu of the software.

I have the same problem when using my Windows 8.1 AMD computer.  All normal and ambient occlusion maps are black for all projects I've tried creating.

I can save my W8.1 project, move it to my old Windows 7, rebake and it will fix the normal and AO maps.

W7 is NVidia, W8.1 is ATI Radeon, both are AMD.

I failed to save the log, sorry.  Will wait for the new update.
