Author Topic: What is the Tablet PC for Substance?  (Read 3064 times)

So when hybrid tablets started getting traction as replacement or alternative to a laptop for artist of all kinds. I wanted to know what the best ones for running the Substance software was? I had been digging around from the start and did find a few that could run Zbrush, Maya, and so on. But have not found any info on any that could run SP, SD, or Bitmap from the companies that sell them or from reviews online.

What I am trying to find is one that can run substance painter no problem. But with limited funding and lack of public demonstration in stores like Best Buy, I am having a hard time finding the right one. As we all know SP and SD are some of the most demanding programs and best programs when it comes to 3D artist. So that's why I'm asking for  people who have or are getting a hybrid tablet that can run Substance Painter and what they recommend.

I want to know the specs, models, and features of the tablet and experience using the tablet in your pipeline for home and on the go work? I also want people to find and post ones they are looking at giving the specs of the tablet and trailers for them, if they can find them. Please link the tablet's URL in the entry if not already done and list all the info you can find on it. Pleas keep in mind the specs needed to run the substance programs. I'm going to list them off here so you don't need to find them.

So does anyone have one of these and could give their opion on them for using SP or any of the Subtance programs.

Hi Joshua,

Replying in from the twitter mention : ) I'm using a Surface Pro 3 with the intel HD 4400. Painter is GPU bound so when using an integrated GPU you can expect performance issues. However, I've found Painter to be usable on the Surface Pro 3 in many cases. The SP3 is not my main computer and I don't use dense models or high resolutions when using the Surface. I use it for working on scenes and content while traveling. Recently I was on my way to a meeting and I used the SP3 to finish up my Painter scene during my flight. I'm not sure how much better the surface pro 4 would be. The SP3 is a great tablet/PC but I wouldn't recommend it solely for using Painter.

I use Radial Menu with the SP3.

Thanks Wes.

Now I went to find the specs on the Surface Pro 3, but found that it is no longer being sold out side of used. However the fact that the model could run SP at all is great to hear. So I went and found the tech specs on the current version, Pro 4.

As of writing this post, the Base model of the Pro 4 is $799 going up to $1,799 for the i7 16gm ram model.

From what I can tell so far, the price tags on the Surface Pro is appealing, and the other Surface products might be a good idea to look into here. It may be a great alternative from getting a Mobile Studio from Wacom.

Do you recommend buying it?

Thanks for introducing
I enjoy design and professional photography. More information you can find here

Personally, I think that while choosing the tablet, the first thing you should pay attention to is the size of the working area. If you are looking for a tablet for a design work, then you should not take less than the size of the standard A4.

The next important characteristic is the sensitivity level of the pen (feather), I would recommend you to take the tablet with not less than 2048 levels, but the more the better. If you work with non-design programs for photo editing like photoshop using a photoshop feather, then the sensitivity level will be less important. By the way, here is some info on how to work with photoshop feather and how to smooth edges in photoshop.

Resolution is also a very important characteristic. 2000 LPI is considered as the average size.

Сonsidering these characteristics, I would advise you to review the Parblo a610 and Wacom Intuos Pro L.

Hope it helps!
