Author Topic: SVG Subtract Shapes operation  (Read 2710 times)

Hi there,

I want to reproduce the image you see attached within SD with a SVG node.

So basically I am looking for a way to substract some circles from a square
and a smaller square from a bigger one to get this inner shape... I found a tool which is adding or subtracting / intersect on so on, based on single or poly-pen strokes, but not shapes.

Is this just not possible? How would one suposed to create a shape like this in SD?

Cheers!

Hi Elowan,

I don't think there this is subtract functionality. However, a work around would be to use the SVG to create a height map that is then converted to normal. You can then create an AO map from there.

By creating the height map, you can work with black and white and utilize the idea of "negative space" to create the subtracted shapes.

Here is a screen where I created a corner from the image you posted. This may not be what you're looking for. I created a white box (height), then used the Pen tool to create a black "cut out" shape into the height.

ah, ok I see.

I´ll use a dedicated vector-drawing app to create a SVG and import into SD then.

Yeah, that might work better if you're looking to make very complex shapes.
