Author Topic: How to generate mask using heightmap?  (Read 1226 times)

I'm trying to find a way to automatically create a mask for a secondary color on a dragon skin. I would like to use the heightmap I painted for the skin scales, so the lower parts (gaps between the scales) would be this darker color.
I hand painted to show kind of what I would like to do:

Doing by hand would take a long time and wouldn't look as nice as I'm thinking. So, is there any way to do that?

Currently no easy way to do this, you could export the heightmap channel from your document and reimport it back and use it as a mask for this secondary color. We are working on a better solution to this though.

That's a good idea, unfortunatelly it won't update if I change the heighmap. Thanks! Looking forward to the new updates :)

Just to share the results, it works fine :) I just need to fix some parts because it is a bit too random. Thanks!
