Author Topic: Substance plugin for UE4 - How to get it working  (Read 152413 times)

But more to the point, I have a problem with importing my sbsar file - I drag and drop my sbsar into the content browser, it gives me import options, i proceed, i am prompted with the exact same window again, i proceed and then UE4 crashes.. Any idea why? Also just to make sure, what version of UE4 am I supposed to be running this on? 4.2.1, 4.1.2 or 4.0.2?

Michael, do you have any other plugins active at the same time? We found conflicts in UE4 with plugins when we'd try to use more than one plugin compiled into a custom build.

Hi, well as it is my first time using UE4 the only plugins that are enabled alongside Substance is the ones that were already there by default - such as; Epic Survey, Intro Tutorials, Perforce, Plugins Editor and Subversion..  Is any of that out of the ordinary?

Nope. Hopefully we will find happiness in the next official build of UE4 with native support for Substance. Fingers are crossed.

Yes hopefully! ;D
Well thanks for your time, and if I manage to figure out what's wrong before the next update (do we know when that is by the way?) I'll post it here :)

Get it from here and click Get the Plugin button:

Fork it over.

Download the GitHUB for Windows program:
https://windows.github.com

And follow the rest of the instructions that was previously posted in this thread.

This took a few hours. I took notes on everything needed to get this going here:
http://oculusdrifter.blogspot.com/2014/07/installing-substance-ue4-plugin.html

I cover the 3 ways to fire up the engine once it is compiled.

I am going to start learning Substance this weekend but that was kinda painful. That is expecting a lot out of a user. I hope this can be eliminated in future releases.

Hi seanrforeman,

The next release will be much more accessible to users, so stay tuned :)

4.3 preview dropped today, no substance plugin???

It will be in the final 4.3 release.

Awesome, thanks guys.

I've finally got the hang of SD after watching Wes's tute on cracked concrete, and have just got the hang of coding in UE4 so I'm pretty much in Simon heaven at the moment :)

4.3 is out! 4.3 is out! 4.3 is out! 4.3 is out! 4.3 is out! 4.3 is out!

How about that plugin eh?

Hi simon_8 !

The 4.3 Plugin is now available here:

Congratulations! It works like a charm!

It works like a charm, like magic, like nearly perfect. Thanks for getting us here guys - now where's the live link between Substance and UE4. While I'm at it, how about a live link addon between Blender and Substance too? Like the one's between Blender and Photoshop, Gimp, 3D-Coat, MakeHuman, sIbl, even a wonky one for After Effects (okay, so it's an export addon).

Substance plugin builds fine on x64 target in Visual Studio. Is it possible to complete to win32 target? I have error:
Code: [Select]
Error 2 error : Unable to instantiate instance of 'SubstanceCore' object type from compiled assembly 'UE4EditorModuleRules'.  Unreal Build Tool creates an instance of your module's 'Rules' object in order to find out about your module's requirements.  The CLR exception details may provide more information:  System.Reflection.TargetInvocationException: Адресат вызова создал исключение. ---> UnrealBuildTool.BuildException: ERROR: Platform not supported by Substance. Any solution or only works in win64 bin?
