Please help. Who knows the workflow substance painter to 3ds max Arnold render? any tuts?

3ds Max 2018 with Arnold 5 the workflow is same as in Maya with Arnold 5:

The workflow is as simple as it can be:
Base Color to Base Color
Metallic to Metalness
Roughness to Roughness (in the Specular component)

Make sure you using the correct color space.
Raw: Metallic, Roughness, Normal, Height, Bump, etc.
sRGB: Base Color

When you import a texture (bitmap) you can choose to override the import settings.
Override: 1 = Raw
Override: 2.2 = sRGB

Hi cgserek,

I did some tests. I have a good news and a bad news as well.

Good news: The workflow (I wrote before) is perfect.
The bad news: Currently the gamma override feature is not working with the 3ds Max 2018 and Arnold combo.
Grrrr... sorry.

If you "double gamma correct" the Roughness and other non color related textures (for example in Photoshop) the results are pretty good.

The results:

We've got a solution: Do not turn on the Use Existing .tx Textures option in the Arnold render settings.
This is a bug but not that serious.

Any possibility of doing this for Maxwell Render?

Hi,

How to render in IRay in 3DS Max?

Also, how to render in VRay in 3DS Max? The VRay workflow in 3DS Max is a little different than it is in Maya, for instance I can't find where to change the Colorspace settings in Max.

For example, for my IOR texture, I connect IOR texture to a bitmap node straight into Fresnel IOR in the VRayMat node. Is this correct?

Hi,
The workflow is exactly the same. Yes, the Fresnel IOR is the one you need.
The Color Space settings in Max is more automated compare to Maya, but you do have the control over it if you need.
When you import a texture (bitmap) you can choose to override the import settings.
Override: 1 = Raw
Override: 2.2 = sRGB

Thank you!

What about OCTANE?

Asked about it some posts before. No answer yet.

Still waiting to see if I (and others) can get some help with Maxwell Render?

There is no export preset, you simply have to use the regular Metal/Rough textures from Substance Painter and load them into the Substance preset available in the public Octane library.

Is it not working for you, or did you miss that answer ?

Hello everyone! Thanks for the good information

Hello

I am having problems with the C4D workflow.
I tried the setting that were suggested for Maya.

Colorspace
Base Color = sRGB
all other =linear

What I can't get to work properly is the roughness chanel. If I compare the material how it looks inside painter to my renders there is the roughness missing.

In Painter

The material with my settings in Arnold (C4D)

Has anyone been able to get that to work in C4D? Your help is much appreciated.

Regards
Ulrich

Hello, have you resolve that?

Hi

Does anyone know the workflow for Renderman?

Thank you.
