Author Topic: Substance Painter very Slow and Crashs constantly on MAC  (Read 4476 times)

When opening Substance Painter the programm "renders" every time the previews for Smart Materials and Materials which takes up to 5:45 Minutes on a 4K Display! After loading a Mesh and Panting, Substance Painter crashs very often. Also when switching from painting to Iray Render.

Next:
in Substance Designer the Nvidia GTX 980 TI is supported - but not in Substance Painter. There is only the CPU supported. Rendering takes up to hours in Iray

So for me it is very boring to work with Substance Painter.
I am using the newest NVIDIA Drivers and CUDA

We are still waiting for Iray support of "Pascal" (GTX 10xx) Nvidia cards in Substance Painter.
I would think Iray should run on the GTX 980 Ti, which is reasonably new but not a Pascal series.

It looks as if your Mac (or Painter) is not detecting the hardware correct?  I don't know.

Marc,

I looks like you and I share an issue of the wrong version of CUDA being reported by Substance Painter/Designer.

In may case, it does not appear to be a problem, it's just an oddity.  But maybe it's related to your issues.  I don't know, but thought it was worth mentioning.

hi justaviking,
but you are on windows and you were able to fix the issue with the wrong detection of the CUDA version?

in my case there is no change to do something in the registry - i´m on a mac pro with el capitan

till now i got no response for my mail to allegorithmic.

best regards, marc

I did not fix the CUDA version discrepency.  I still have that problem.

I cleared out a registry folder that fixed the "black Iray render," but it still reports the wrong CUDA version.

I thought it was interesting that your system also reports the wrong CUDA version.  However, since Iray is functioning correctly for me now, I see it as a very minor issue.

Hey, the fix will be available in the next release of Painter (this is related to Iray SDK update).

Which is fixed?
a) The minor "Wrong version of CUDA reported"
b) The serious problem Marc was talking about?
c) Both?

I'm excitedly looking forward to the next Painter update.
